A call for help...

One of our adoptive families has a request.

They are trying to raise funds in their late daughters name to combat Crohn's Disease.

We at Laki's home would greatly appreciate any support you may be able to offer them.

Tax Deductible Donations can be made at:

Please make a difference

We opened Laki's Home bird shelter and rescue when we were made aware of the growing need for a bird rescue in south east Michigan. Currently we are still working out of our home, but in the very near future we will need to move to some place a bit larger. Almost immediately after opening our doors, hearts, and wallets, did the birds start flying in. We always have something going on here. And new birds coming in. Lots of them are adoptable, And if one comes in that is not, don't fret, perhaps down the road they will be. Just try to be patient ( We know easier said than done!).  You can see all of the kids on the "Available Animals" page under the Shelter link to the left. We also have some links on our site to visit forums and other informational sites.

We can also be found on PETFINDER.COM

Check out our Help Desk.

We are a member of the HEALTHIPET NETWORK CORPORATION

You can click on the above link to go directly to their website. They provide a wonderful service to all displaced avians across the United States.

Please consider helping them out.

Thank you for checking us out and by all means take a look around. Feel free to contact us with any comments that you may have or any help that you may need.

We feel that we need to briefly address a growing problem that many shelters and rescues are facing now. We do not give out or adopt out free birds. Although the birds are surrendered to us, we have to invest money and countless hours  of time to prepare them for their new homes. Every bird that comes here, goes to the vet. So please do not email us asking for a bird for free. Our adoption prices vary and are not one set price. Our fee heavily depends on what the vet expenses for that particular bird are. Please fill out an adoption application before emailing questions regarding prices and policies. The policies are on this website.

P.S. The site is always under construction so please hang in there. We will be continually adding new things and information We have expanded our family and are hastily updating the website as much as possible to bring you the most current information as possible. (along with videos, and pictures!). So check back often! Thanks

Our Mission

We are a private funded non-profit organization that rescues abused and unwanted birds. Our foster home(s) provide a safe haven for abandoned, abused and unwanted birds. We are a no-kill shelter. Educating the public on the responsibilities of bird ownership is one of the primary goals of L.H.B.R.S.

We hope to educate both current bird owners and future bird owners alike. We strive to keep in touch with other shelters and rescues, in the hope to offer a broad base support network for you. This allows us to assist with almost any issue that may arise that you need help with. We hope to find forever loving homes for all the birds that we rescue. And to provide a peaceful sanctuary for those birds that are unable to be adopted.

"I am an Animal Rescuer"

Author Unknown

My job is to assist God's creatures.

I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs.

I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures

without planning or selection.

I have bought dog food with my last dime.

I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand.

I have hugged someone vicious and afraid.

I have fallen in love a thousand times.

And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body

too many times to count.

I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends.

I don't often use the word "pet".

I notice those lost on the road side

and my heart aches.

I will hand raise a field mouse

and make friends with a vulture.

I know of no creature unworthy of my time.

I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven,

but I believe there are.

Why would God make something so perfect

and leave it behind?

Some may think we are masters of the animals,

but the animals have mastered themselves...

something people still haven't learned.

War and abuse make me hurt for the world,

but a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind.

We are a quiet but determined army

and we are making a difference everyday.

There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan,

nothing more rewarding than saving a life,

no higher recognition than watching them thrive.

There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play

who, only days ago, was too weak to eat.

By the love of those who I've been privileged to rescue,

I have been rescued.

I know what true unconditional love really is,

for I've seen it shining in the eyes of so many,

grateful for so little.

I am an Animal Rescuer.

My work is never done.

My home is never quiet.

My wallet is always empty,

but my heart is always full.

The Ten Commandments of Parrot Ownership

By: Parrot Rescue, Adoption and Sanctuary

1. Be nice to Parrots

2. Don't make parrots wait for anything they request, this only makes them mad.

3. Don't interrupt a parrot's schedule with your own, this also makes them mad.

4. Give parrots everything they ask for in an expedient manner. If you don't, yep, they get mad.

5. Never frustrate a parrot in anyway. You guessed it, they get mad.

6. Only give parrots delicious, nutritious food. Yeah, yeah the mad thing again.

7. Give parrots lots of expensive toys to tear up or reject.  Blah, blah, blah - mad.

8. Never punish or attempt to punish a parrot for pooping on the carpet, this makes them extraordinarily mad.

9. Don't inhibit a parrot's insanely loud vocalization. This will frustrate them and

(do I need to tell you this again?) they get  mad.

10. Obey all rules- if you don't...

Anyone owning a large bird should really get a laugh at the ten commandments.

As far as the poop goes, well lets just say we have discovered that its easier to remove once it has dried. LOL
